This proves that, even for a big part as a fuel tank, as already mentioned earlier, it is very difficult to see a car is complete.<\/p>\n<p>A friend of mine, also the owner of a XK140 FHC, has one extra fuel tank in his pile of car parts. This tank is original but has two small issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Small dent in the underside of the tank nearby the filter element<\/li>\n<li>Small hole\u00a0just underneath the mounting bracket (grey area on the right side)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To make the cleaning and sealing process more\u00a0convenient, I connected two extension on which the tank can turn freely.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1230\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankOriginal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1230\" class=\"wp-image-1230\" src=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankOriginal-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"hdr\" width=\"375\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankOriginal-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankOriginal-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankOriginal.jpg 1456w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1230\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fuel tank during the internal cleaning process<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After both issues where solved the tank is ready for the internal cleaning and coating in the following steps.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn the fuel tank, backwards and forwards, filled with small sharp stones<\/li>\n<li>Rinse thoroughly\u00a0\u00a0with clean water to remove dust\u00a0residue.<\/li>\n<li>Fill the fuel tank with &#8220;Metal Prep 1\/4 gallon&#8221; from POR15 and rotate the tank for one hour.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the Metal Prep remaining and rinse thoroughly\u00a0\u00a0with clean water to remove.\u00a0(I used a pressure washer)<\/li>\n<li>Let the tank dry completely (Outside in the sun)<\/li>\n<li>Fill the fuel tank with \u00a0&#8220;Fuel Tank Sealer 1\/4 gallon&#8221; from POR15\u00a0and rotate the tank for one hour.<\/li>\n<li>Drain the fuel tank for one hour to remove excess sealer from the tank.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1229\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankCleand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1229\" class=\"wp-image-1229\" src=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankCleand-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"TankCleaned\" width=\"375\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankCleand-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankCleand-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankCleand.jpg 1092w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tank after removing the rust on the outside<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With sandpaper the outside of the tank is cleaned and prepared for painting.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1232\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankSealed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1232\" class=\"wp-image-1232\" src=\"http:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankSealed-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"TankSealed\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankSealed-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankSealed-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/xk140.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/TankSealed.jpg 1092w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1232\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fuel tank painted and seams sealer aplied<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After the tank is painted (epoxy primer) the outside seams are sealed (3M body sealer).<br \/>\nNow the &#8220;Body shuts spray&#8221; from 3M can be aplied.
